About Us

The society was formed in 1941 by six friends from the Art School in Silver Street, Grimsby, to enable them to pursue their artistic talents in a friendly and informal environment, something we strongly maintain to this day. This group was the nucleus of the society which became known as the ‘North Lincs Art Society’. The society now boasts a healthy membership, including artists of all abilities from a wide area. The aim of the society is to inform and encourage its members through the many activities arranged throughout the year.

Activities vary from year to year but are arranged to include weekly social painting sessions during the spring and autumn months where members are able to enjoy a few hours painting in the medium and subject of their choice. Workshops and demonstrations are also arranged at intervals during the year and have included Ron Ranson, Anshley Jackson, Bryan Ryder, Rob Brindley, Terry Harrison, Roy Lang, Hazel Lale, Robert Wareing and Jill Carter who have all encouraged us in their own medium be it oils, watercolors, acrylics or pastels.

Outdoor painting days are also arranged during the warmer months, where the delights of painting and sketching outside are experienced.

Since 2004 we have arranged coach trips to a variety of galleries within the U.K. Theses have proven very popular and have included, ‘The Lowry Centre’, Manchester, The Fizwilliam Museum, Cambridge and The Walker Gallery in Liverpool.

The society also organises regular and successful exhibitions of members work throughout the year. These are normally held in our local libraries and more recently at the ‘Playgoers Theater’ in Louth (suggestions of other locations for future exhibitions are always welcome). At the annual exhibition, an independent committee selects the members work producing a balanced and aesthetic exhibition, and awards are given to the artist who, the the eyes of the judges, have produced paintings of a very high standard in each medium. The exhibitions are always popular and attract many visitors and buyers from across the region.

New members are always welcome, be they leisure painters or professionals, the only qualification being the love of painting, drawing or sculpturing. Please press 'Become a member' above and fill in the short form.

Annual subscription is £15.
